The Power of Art Collectors

Discover the story behind Canman's commissioned Raven painting and the sale of The Sporecerer. Learn why art collectors are essential to independent artists while exploring original paintings, fine art prints, and commission opportunities.

Thanks to Art collectors Felicia and Cory for purchasing and commissioning new work for their home collection.

Behind every original painting is more than brushes, canvas, and countless hours in the studio—there's a community of collectors who believe in the artist's vision. Every commission, every original painting purchased, and every print collected helps make the next piece possible.

Recently, I had the privilege of completing a custom commission titled "Raven," while another incredible collector added my original painting "The Sporecerer" to their personal collection. These two moments perfectly capture why art collectors are such an essential part of an artist's journey.

The Story Behind "Raven"

The "Raven" commission was created specifically for a collector who connected with my evolving style of surreal symbolism, vibrant color, and organic textures in my “Inner Eruption” series. Ravens have long represented mystery, transformation, intelligence, and the unseen world—making them the perfect subject for a painting that balances darkness with radiant energy.

Knowing that a painting will become part of someone's home makes every brushstroke more meaningful. Commissioned artwork isn't simply decoration; it's a collaboration between artist and collector that results in something completely unique.

"The Sporecerer" Finds Its Forever Home

Another exciting milestone was seeing "The Sporecerer" purchased by an enthusiastic collector.

Blending my fascination with fungi, consciousness, anatomy, and surreal fantasy, The Sporecerer represents growth, transformation, interconnectedness, and the mysterious intelligence of nature. Seeing this painting resonate with someone enough to make it part of their collection is one of the most rewarding parts of being a full-time artist.

When collectors invest in original artwork, they're preserving a moment in an artist's creative evolution while giving that work a permanent home where it can continue inspiring others.

Why Art Collectors Matter

Many people see only the finished painting hanging on a wall.

What they don't see are the hundreds of hours spent sketching, experimenting, researching, painting, photographing, framing, marketing, shipping, and preparing for exhibitions.

Every original painting purchased helps fund:

  • New paintings and experimental ideas

  • Higher-quality materials and canvases

  • Art festival appearances and gallery exhibitions

  • Limited edition prints and merchandise

  • Future commissions

  • The ability to continue creating full-time

Independent artists don't have large production companies behind them. Every collector becomes part of the creative process by making future work possible.

Building Relationships Through Art

One of my favorite parts of creating original artwork is meeting collectors who truly connect with what I create.

Many collectors begin by purchasing a print before eventually investing in an original painting or commissioning something created specifically for them. Over time these relationships become friendships built around a shared appreciation for creativity and storytelling.

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my paintings displayed in someone's home where it can be enjoyed every day.
